Seonsunghyeon Cultural Complex (선성현문화단지)

Located in Andong, amidst the serene scenery embracing the blue waters of Andongho Lake, the Seonseonghyeon Cultural Complex is a traditional cultural complex that brings the history and spirit of “Seonseonghyeon," once the center of local administration during the Joseon dynasty, to life in a modern context. Developed as part of the “Three Major Cultural Zones” initiative, this site goes beyond mere restoration of historical ruins to serve as an open cultural space where visitors can experience the spirit and way of life of Confucian scholars through a contemporary lens. It features recreations of Joseon-era government buildings along with a variety of attractions, including the Hanok Experience Center, a traditional hanok lodging facility; a history museum chronicling the story of Seonseong-hyeon; the Seonseong Waterfront Path, which offers views of Andongho Lake; and Yekki Village. In particular, Yekki Village—where the Seongseonghyeon Cultural Complex is located—served as a new site for residents displaced by the construction of the Andong Dam and is now being reborn as a cultural and creative village brimming with art and talent. With its mural-lined alleys, waterfront path, galleries, and various hands-on workshops harmoniously coexisting, this village has established itself as a prime example of artists and the local community growing together. The Seonseonghyeon Cultural Complex is a living cultural heritage experience where visitors can directly feel the life and spirit of the Joseon dynasty—a place to stay, learn, enjoy, and reflect amid traditional values and natural beauty—as well as a healing space that offers a respite from daily life.
