Baengnyongdonggul Cave-Gangwon Paleozoic Geopark (백룡동굴-강원고생대 국가지질공원)

Baengnyongdonggul Cave is a limestone cave located on a cliff at the foot of Baegunsan Mountain. It was designated as a Natural Monument in 1979. Various cave formations are distributed within the cave, including stalactites, stalagmites, columns, flowstones, small flowstones, cave pearls, curtains and bacon sheets, helictites, cave flowers, cave coral, cave shields, and floating calcite. In particular, deformed stalactites and stalagmites, as well as egg-fry shaped stalagmites, are very unique forms characteristic of the cave. There are a total of 56 species of cave-dwelling organisms inhabiting Baengnyongdonggul Cave , including spiders, insects, bats, beetles, shrimp, and millipedes; these creatures can be observed if one pays a little careful attention. In addition, traces of an ondol, a fireplace, and a chimney were found inside the cave entrance, indicating that Baengnyongdonggul Cave was once used as a dwelling.
